Where to Eat Near Michigan International Speedway for Nite Lites Christmas 2026
Every holiday season, Michigan International Speedway changes personality. The NASCAR engines go quiet, race cars disappear, and millions of Christmas lights take over one of the largest properties in the Irish Hills.
Nite Lites at Michigan International Speedway has grown into a roughly 6.5-mile drive-through Christmas attraction. Michigan International Speedway describes it as the Midwest's largest drive-through holiday light show.
That brings families to Brooklyn, Michigan from all over the region, and it creates another question worth answering before everybody gets hungry: where should we eat near MIS before or after Nite Lites?
For the least stressful night, we recommend dinner first, lights second.

Nite Lites Christmas 2026 at Michigan International Speedway
For 2026, the official Nite Lites Christmas drive-through runs from November 26, 2026 through January 3, 2027. Hours are 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday through Thursday and 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM Friday and Saturday.
The route is approximately 6.5 miles long. Admission is $37 per carload for the Christmas drive-through. Train rides are available Thursday through Sunday for $15 per person. The Christmas entrance is from US-12 at Gate 8.
The show operates in rain or snow and is scheduled to be open on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

The History of Nite Lites: From Jackson to MIS
Nite Lites began in 1996 at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. Owner John Spink started with a Christmas display roughly half a mile long, and the attraction grew as Jackson-area families returned year after year.
By its final years at the fairgrounds, the drive-through had expanded to around 1.5 miles. The venue was becoming a constraint, and winter weather could turn dirt and clay areas muddy.
Michigan International Speedway officials approached Spink about relocating Nite Lites. MIS offered a larger venue with extensive blacktop and concrete, along with the road network and acreage needed for the attraction to grow.
2017: Nite Lites Moves to Michigan International Speedway
The first Nite Lites Christmas season at MIS was 2017. The new version immediately expanded to roughly three miles and included 65 themes, a 250-foot lighted tunnel, six 30-foot mega trees and three 20-foot mega trees.
The move changed the scale of the show. By 2018 the route had reached five miles. Reporting from that season described six illuminated tunnels, 15 mega trees, more than 90 new displays and more than 10 miles of Christmas lights lining the route.
The attraction kept growing. By 2021 MIS was describing about 500 displays and one million lights. In 2022, Spink said the show had grown to roughly 6.5 miles and used more than one million bulbs. A 2024 report put the display at at least two million bulbs.

How Much Work Goes Into a 6.5-Mile Christmas Light Show?
Months. Spink has explained that setup begins after the August NASCAR race and is usually in full swing by Labor Day. The crew works toward a Thanksgiving opening, which means close to three months of installation before most visitors ever see a bulb turn on.
Many of the displays are handcrafted, and the crew continues building and rearranging pieces so returning families do not simply see the exact same route every season.
How Much Electricity Does Nite Lites Use?
This is a question people naturally ask when they hear the words millions of lights. We found reliable reporting on the number of bulbs and displays, but we did not find a verified kilowatt-hour total or published electric bill from Nite Lites.
So we are not going to invent one. Modern LEDs can use dramatically less electricity than old incandescent Christmas lights, animated displays do not necessarily run every bulb at full output continuously, and a trustworthy calculation would require the actual equipment specifications.
What we can say safely: powering millions of lights across 6.5 miles is an electrical and control project on a completely different scale from decorating a house. And somebody owns a heroic number of extension cords.

Why MIS Is Such a Good Home for Nite Lites
Michigan International Speedway sits on more than 1,400 acres in the Irish Hills. The famous oval is two miles long, but the property also contains infield roads, pit-road areas, parking and support infrastructure built to move huge NASCAR crowds.
That physical scale is the reason Nite Lites was able to grow from a fairgrounds display measured in fractions of a mile to a holiday attraction measured in many miles.
Where Is a Good Restaurant Near Michigan International Speedway?
The Deck Down Under is at 11303 E. Chicago Rd in Jerome, Michigan, roughly 10 miles from Michigan International Speedway.
We think The Deck is one of the best fits for a Nite Lites dinner because we combine three things that matter on a family event night: a large dining room, the ability to handle groups, and a menu broad enough for people who do not all want the same kind of dinner.

Why The Deck Works When Everybody Wants Something Different
The Deck is seafood-forward, with oysters, lobster rolls, perch, cod, shrimp and other seafood selections. We also serve steaks, weekend prime rib, burgers, chicken, pasta, pizza, sandwiches and chef-driven seasonal dishes.
That means Grandpa can get perch, someone else can order a ribeye, the kids can find burgers or pizza, and the whiskey person in the group can look at a collection approaching 200 bottles while everyone else tries to remember where they parked.

Can The Deck Handle Large Nite Lites Groups?
Yes. Nite Lites is often a multi-family event, and those groups get large quickly. The Deck has around 200 seats and regularly handles busy weekends and larger parties.
If you are bringing multiple families, a birthday group, employees, a church group or another larger party, contact us ahead of time. A reservation lets us plan the seating instead of trying to assemble one giant table after everyone walks through the door at once.

Should We Eat Before or After Nite Lites?
Dinner first is the safest plan. The Christmas show begins at 5:30 PM. A 4:30 or 5:00 PM dinner reservation gives you an easy evening: eat without rushing, make the roughly 10-mile drive to MIS, then enter the lights after dark.
The show can also work first if you enter right at 5:30 PM and finish early enough to reach The Deck before our 8:00 PM last seating, but traffic and event lines vary. A 6.5-mile Christmas light show is not the night to build your dinner strategy around arriving at 7:58.
Important: The Deck Is Closed Sunday and Monday
The Deck is open Tuesday through Saturday starting at 11:00 AM with last seating at 8:00 PM. We are closed Sunday and Monday. Nite Lites operates every day during much of the Christmas season, so Sunday and Monday visitors will need another dining option.
If you are visiting Tuesday through Saturday, we would love to make dinner part of the night.
